Catching the Spirit Youth Society

Outdoor Experiences for Youth

Welcome the 2017 Mentorvisors!

Liz - Liz started as a Participant with Catching The Spirit back in the day. She fell in love with the program and decided to become a Peer Leader two summers later. 2017 marks her second summer as a Mentorvisor and fifth season with CTS. Her favourite thing about CTS is the enthusiasm, dedication, and teamwork that the youth and leadership team bring to the program. Liz is a fourth year student at Quest University Canada in Squamish, BC studying public health policy. Aside from CTS and school, Liz is a team coordinator for Quest Campus Emergency Medical Services. She also rock climbs, swims, speaks (some) Spanish, and practices yoga. Her dream job is to work as a nurse with Doctors Without Borders, but for now she is incredibly grateful (and qualified) to be a Mentorvisor at Catching The Spirit. Liz is looking forward to another fun and fabulous summer with CTS!

Natasha - This year is Natasha's eighth year with CTS. She is going into her fourth and final year in the Bachelor of Design in Fashion and technology program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. In her spare time Natasha enjoy's music, crafts and puns.

Ryan - Ryan Chang, 19, loves ultimate frisbee and will make sure you know it. Tynehead’s very own Tarzan without the abs but with the appropriate camp clothing.  Does not like being called Brian. Still has not caught the spirit after 6 summers, maybe this summer will be his summer. Primary suspect of the disappearance of a certain cheese grater. Super excited to build help build tents for campers. Please don’t call him Brian.

Teagan Teagan is excited to be a mentorvisor with CTS this summer! This is his 8th year with the program since starting in 2010 when he was 12, and his first year as a mentorvisor. He is currently studying biology at UBC and will be going into second year in September. He loves plants and playing the trumpet, and he hopes to see you all outside!

Selby - This is Selby Wilkinson’s first summer with Catching The Spirit as a mentorvisor!  She enjoys kayaking, hiking and writing when she is not busy doing her studies at UBC.  She is very passionate about connecting youth with nature and inspiring others to see the beauty in their natural surroundings.  She  looks forward to meeting all of the incredible participants and peer leaders and experiencing a fun filled summer of adventure!

Santiago - Santiago is a UBC Biochemistry and Economics student from Ottawa. He’s returning for his third summer at CTS to promote leadership development and wilderness exploration. He enjoys playing guitar, hiking, and training for lifesaving sport. He’s looking forward journaling, continuing to explore Pacific Spirit Regional Park and singing songs by the fire.

Anna - Anna is excited to be back at CTS for her fourth year, she first joined Catching the spirit  as a participant in 2013 and fell in love with the program. This will be Anna's first year as a mentorvisor and is eager to work with peer leaders and participants this year. She is currently studying at Capilano University and will continue her studies this September. Her hobbies consist of hiking, yoga and spending time outdoors.

Emilia - Emilia graduated from the Environmental and Sustainable Geography program at UBC in May 2017 with a dual degree B.A./B.Sc. Since moving from Las Vegas, Nevada to Vancouver, she’s adopted the Pacific North West lifestyle and taken up weekend ski trips to Whistler and regular overnight hikes as hobbies. She’s very excited to engage with Peer Leaders and campers in tackling and discussing many of the local environmental challenges and issues in Vancouver!
