Catching the Spirit Mid-Summer Update
I Am Because We Are. Ain't That The Truth.
I can hardly believe we’re already rolling into August and our summer season is half done. It’s been aaages since I’ve sent out an update…all you leaders decked out in red have been keeping us busy...and we love it!
The sun’s been out and our overnight camps and daytime Ranger programs are rockin’. What can we say? CTS leadership is at its peak! Mentorvisors (yes, those talented adult folk that keep things rolling on the ground) and Peer Leaders (the engines that keep this program running) finally took off their training wheels late June to jump head first into summer. And all you participants have helped bring this season, our 12th, alive! From bog work to fence building, garden stewardship and more, you guys and gals are doing us proud, taking the CTS bull by the horns and leading the way in fine form. Keep it up!
We also just celebrated our 3rd Annual International Ubuntu Day on July 21st. Ubuntu, ‘I am because we are’ in Swahili, came to us by way of Comfort the Children International from Maai Mahiu, Kenya, a group of youth that CTS resonates with on all kinds of levels. Be it youth-led initiatives, a community garden, good ol’ outdoor fun...they’re doing it too, just like us. And so an international friendship began three years ago that now inspires the one day throughout our summer season where our four camp locations come together to interact with our Kenyan friends via top-notch technology, partake in garden stewardship and entertain each other until our bellies are sore from lauging. It was a grand day organized and delivered in its entirety by the CTS Ubuntu youth team. What a high five they deserve! I am because we are. I couldn’t say it better myself, but check out who can.
Up and Coming
Walk & Run for Smiles, in partnership with the Starlight Foundation
CTS Games Planning Team
Every summer CTS youth work with the Starlight Foundation (which works to better the lives or seriously ill children and their families) on one of their biggest fundraising events of the year, Walk & Run for Smiles. We’re now looking for a team of dedicated youth that can get together weekly in August (not to worry if you can’t make all meetings) to create environmentally themed games for walkers to enjoy on the day of the event, Saturday September 29th. Not to worry if you can’t make the event itself. We just need an energetic youth team to help make it all happen!
First Meeting: Tuesday Aug 7, 1-330PM. The Nature House at Burnaby Lake Regional Park: 4519 Piper Ave, Burnaby
Please let us know if you can make it and we'll fill you in with more details.
CTS Season-End Appreciation BBQ
And your all invited! That’s right: CTS’ers, your siblings, parents, you name it! Like in year’s past, we want to fill the stands and flip the patties well into the eve. It’s a time to celebrate the year - the good times, the sunny times, the wet times & more. Keep your eyes peeled for the invite (coming out early August), but in the meantime, please save the date:
Wed Aug 22, 4-7PM
Location to be determined
And last but certainly not least, remaining overnight weekend camps and daytime Ranger programs!
Camps run at all four of our parks until the weekend of August 19th. And Ranger days take place at Burnaby Lake and Pacific Spirit regional parks until Thursday Aug 16th. If you need to cancel any existing confirmed dates, please let us know as soon as possible. Cancelations drive us bonkers here at the CTS headquarters so please keep them to a minimum and give us plenty of notice. On the other hand, if you aren’t registered in any given program but would like to join us, please give us a call or an email. We’d love to have you, and those cancelations (albeit it just a handful, right folks?) mean we might be able to get you in.
For more details on any of the above and more, contact us anytime: 604.562.0583 or firstname.lastname@example.org
We’ve got something magical here my friends! See you all outside.
