Catching the Spirit Youth Society

Outdoor Experiences for Youth

Although Week 1 and 2 Spirit Steward Camps seem like ages ago, they did a fabulous job at showcasing what CTS is all about! Week 1 Spirit Steward Camps Pacific Spirit and Burnaby Lake groomed trails, cleaned shorelines, made journals, celebrated birthdays, explored bogs, and had a ton of fun all around!

Good afternoon Participants and Parents!
Our last 2 weekends of camps are officially upon us, my goodness how the summer flys! We have space availiable at some of our camps on August 12-14 and August 19-21. This is your last chance to register for a camp and everyone is welcome so just email CTS with your request and we will get you registered! We hope to see some of you there!

Celebrating Canada Parks Day at Belcarra Regional Park - 4 CTS camps, 60 youth from across the Metro Vancouver Region, 5km hike - pulling invasive ivy and beach clean up - great work CTS Team.

Thanks to MV Parks staff for the support.

Liz - Liz started as a Participant with Catching The Spirit back in the day. She fell in love with the program and decided to become a Peer Leader two summers later.

CTS Canada Day Weekend Camps. Over 55 CTS youth participants and Peer Leaders working together, building leadership skills and making Canada more awsome! Here is one of the weekend stewardship projects - the Burnaby Lake camp at Granville Island for a 'Great Canadain Shoreline' cleanup project. Organized and led by CTS Peer Leaders for their Ubuntu community project! Awesome job team!

CTS Mentorvisors were fortunate to celebrate National Aboriginal Day with a workshop hosted by 2 Metis Women Consulting.  Starting off the afternoon - a 'Smudge' and sharing of the healing and medicines used in a smudge, followed by building 'Dream Catchers'.  Awesome and fun afternoon - thanks to Lorelei and Corrina from 2 Metis Women Consulting.

Amazing what can be accomplished with good food, fun games, team work and an Awesome Leadership Team!   Here is what some of our PL's had to say about the experience:

"My favourite part of Bootcamp is the welcoming environment that I’ve never found at other camps or places.  At home I like to go sit at parks or nature places to think and CTS has that.  There are also people who want you to succeed in finding happiness with the environment.  It is an nonjudgmental community where I can feel safe."

We missed a lot of you at UBC high ropes the other week, it was tons of fun.

Right now we’re gearing up for this weekend’s Bootcamp, and we’re excited to spend the weekend getting to know you!

Where are you PL's?
Your 2016 Mentorvisors are eager to meet you!
Reminder - Leadership Boot Camp at Capilano this weekend. This is an important and fun filled overnight training - please let us know if your coming (every PL should try to be there for all or part of this training!) so we can plan accordingly. Remember - you need to complete a CTS registration so we have all 2016 PL's in our registration system. If you have not registered - do it today!...

The Stanley Park Ecology Society is currently recruiting volunteers for our summer Eco Ranger program.  Eco Rangers work as nature interpreters, roving through the Park answering all sorts of questions and engaging visitors in conversation about local ecology and cultural history. This is a great chance to gain valuable work experience, skills, and knowledge in ecology and public outreach. Training sessions will be on 3 Saturdays and 2 Wednesday evenings throughout June.

Sorry, there are no events scheduled at this time.
